This week while in El Paso for the holidays, my D80 slipped out of my backpack and fell to the ground. My fault, because I did not zip the pack up completely and of course I am just sick about it.
The brunt of the hit was taken on my 18-200mm VR lens and it shattered the polarizer filter. The lens glass looks okay. It appears the AF is struggling now, especially when using the zoom and is making noise and the VR may be having issues too. Luckily, the camera body appears to be working okay.
So...now what to do. Does anyone have any clue how much this might cost to repair? Will I most likely have to purchase a new lens? Recommendations for where I should take the lens for repair? I purchased the lens from Competitive Camera. I am in the Carrollton area.
I am also headed to Colorado later this week and I am not happy that I may not have this lens to take as it is my main lens I use and have right now.
