Gaging interest...
With all these comparisons showing up, with all the new camera bodies floating around along, with the tried-and-true's what would you all think about a FUN, FUN, FUN shootaround matching Nikon shooters vs Canon shooters?
It might go something like this:
We'll find a place where everyone can move about freely taking shots on a particular day in a particular area (I have a place in mind). Once completed, everyone would select one image to submit right there at the sight, out of camera, no processing whatsoever. The next day each group would vote (online) on a favorite image from their group and finally a head-to-head competition with a single Nikon shot and a single Canon shot to see who gets bragging rights.
In doing this I am blatantly disregarding the quality of the photographer and the level of equipment. This opens it up to all levels of photographers (which is what TPF is all about). And hey, it beats shooting pictures of text books using huge, obscure optics!
This would be in the DFW area.
So let me know if you're interested. There's nothing more fun than a some good humored smack talking between photogs. I'll even make up some Shootaround flags or indicators (Nikon yellow and Canon red or course).

I could be coerced into playing. Although I suck at anything but people pics.

It's about trashing the competition, about Nikon crushing the Canon oppressors, about Canon proving they never lost the crown like everyone who doesn't have a Takahashi FSQ106 - 530mm f/5 says they have.
It's about XTi's beating out D3's and D40's laying the smackdown on a Mark III or II (get it?). It's about white lenses vs black lenses, about taking this rivalry and doing something stupid with it.
And when all is said and done, we'll revel in the results for 30 seconds and move on to Mac vs PC.

I might give it a try, depending on what day it is. Unfortunately, I'm working every weekend this month. | | | |

I am more interested in photography than proving equipment merits personally, so i'll pass. (I do realize this is a fun challenge..and not getting down on it..)
Since much of my work is PP from RAW... this sorta exercise wouldn't be something I'd do very well at since I don't setup my body for JPG output or direct conversion from RAW. I apply a technique to my raw images depending on my shooting environment.
You guys have fun. Let the pixel peeping begin!
:)

What will people say if I show up with Olympus gear and everyone else away? If Oly is welcome to the octagon, I'll be there if I can.
My E-500 has no chance of tricking a pixel peeper, and the E-3 purchase isn't coming soon. I shoot photography for prints, not pixel peeping. Wouldn't it be bad if my shots rivaled the competition anyways?

Well my camera is equipped with a 1000 megasquirtle light sensitive array with a megakilo double widget interface and a pseudo-terrafilter. its got 2 million hexafurtles with a 10 kiloplex and a rechargeable virtual combo-backplate. i also fitted an optical fillyfangle with predictive threshold histogram monitoring. it also has a light sensitive light meter and a time sensitive shutter mechanism.

Sounds good, I'll get working on a time and a place (have a cool idea if it works out).
And of course other brands are welcome, the more the more fun to be had!
