No bull - Bull Riding at the Stockyards - 01-17-2008, 11:29 AM

So on a whim I decided to go check out the bull riding at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo last night. Thought it might be an excellent opportunity to give the D3 a low light, fast action workout.

And while the bull riding final itself was disappointing (only 3 guys out of 12 finalists managed to stay on for more than a second or two) the event overall was surprisingly entertaining.

My location is directly across from where the action is so I'm pretty much as far away as you can be.

The end result was over 700 shots taken using the D3's DX mode (comparable to the D2X's HSC). Keeper ratio is amazingly high compared to what I'm used to. Image above has no noise reduction applied.

Joe, I just posted about shooting at the rodeo. I just saw this. LOL!

Do they allow SLR's? I guess they do. How close can you get?

Wow, that's amazing! I shot there last summer, and I couldn't get that kind of crisp with my equipment. Very, very nice!

Dang man, ISO 2200 and you still had to shoot 1/250 @ F2. I didn't realize it would be so low light in there.

Love the shot, but the EXIF really makes it that much more amazing.

Geez...what a testament to the technical ability of both the photographer and the equipment, in this case a Nikon D3. Great shot.

I do however have a quick question.
The second from the left of the guys in the background appears to have something kind of weird (looks like a right hand) looking like it's hanging from beneath his vest and down towards his crotch. Is this something done in photoshop, or, and I assume this is the case, just happened to be there and looking as it does. Pretty funny though.

Nice example of what the D3 can do Joe, and a very fine image as well. Looks like you are going to put that camera to very good use.

Hey, thanks all! My system's been down as I assemble a new rig so I'm slow to respond but I appreciate the comments.

And yeah, if I'd seen that glove I probably would have adjusted the hue on it a bit. I did come away with a few shots that could only be posted in the human forum. Dem bulls ain't shy about what they got under the hood!
