Engagement shoot location help - 01-21-2008, 05:10 PM

Hello everyone! I am fairly new to the area. I have an "edgy couple" if you will, wanting to do engagement shots. They don't really have a specific place in mind. I suggested the Good Latimer Bridge, and it seems it was torn down in '07. Does anyone know of a comparable location? They are dead set against places like botanical gardens. We're hoping for something that fits their personality well. If you can't come up with any suggestions for this type of venue, what about railroad tracks, or vibrant colored building/ structures/ barns or something of those natures? Oh, we're not limited to a specific area either, but would like to keep it close to the DFW area.

I can't wait to hear your ideas!

Hopefully, someone will respond to this because I have quite a few coming up, and I would love some ideas. I would also like to know where people are getting these train shots with the red and yellow trains.

True, the Good-Latimer tunnel was great. But there are still thousands of areas within 5 blocks of where the tunnel was located. The murals are gone for the time being, but should be back in the DART station that is being built above where the tunnel was.

Basically between Elm on the North, Canton on the South, I-45 on the West, and Exposition on the East is a 25 block area that has a location every which way you look. Anytime you go is fine, but the best times are Saturday and Sunday mornings. NO ONE is there then. Go down there any weekday around noon. Get out of your car, walk around and you will find a place to photograph at every turn.

Specifics of some downtown locations.
- On Elm Street, between I-45 and where the tunnel was, are several businesses that have closed and have left some wonderful edgy street scenes. Buildings with peeling paint and brick is very hip and they are everywhere.
- Almost every street in the area works great. Go out in the middle of the street. Any direction you turn could be fun worn-out building street scene.
- The new area of Victory Square is a very fun modern venue. There is a big gathering area with buildings all around, TV screens on every wall is great. There are some modern street scenes around the W Hotel that have Downtown in the background or American Airlines Center. Nearby is a great DART station.
- Go across the Trinity River on the Continental Street Viaduct. As soon as you go over the bridge turn Left or South on Beckley and there is an abandoned gas station that is art deco in style. It is very nice. About 100 yards further down is the train trestle that goes over the river directly into downtown. There are 3 tracks that go across the river and provide an unbelievable background.

These are a few to get you started.

These were all shot in the deep ellum area last year. It will take a lot of walking, but you never know what you will find.

I am scheduled to shoot some engagements here in a month or so. I would love to see someexamples of shots ON A DART TRAIN.

Good luck and have fun!

Scott

Since You Are In Keller. I Would Try, Down Town Fort Worth. I Have Photographed People In The Convention Center There Is Some Nice Big Windows You Can Use For Natural Light, And There Is Escalators, Huge Spiral Stairs, And Some Nice Firniture In Front Of Hughe Windows, Also You Have The Water Park Right Across And Not To Mention If You Just Walk Arround The Block. I Suggest You Go Drive Out There And Just Look Arround The List Is Endless.

Let Us Know How It Goes.

Excellent shots Scott. I know those locations. Did you fire flash on all three of those images?

It appears this thread was started a year ago, but still has some good information.

I just wonder if anyone has shot at the Marty Leonard Chapel at Fort Worth by E. Fay Jones? I am highly interested in it; however, it's opening hours is quite limited (closed on Saturdays and only open 2 Sundays per month), so I haven't got a chance to visit yet. I have searched the forum and found little discussions.

It would be great if someone can post their work of this place. Thanks. =)
