McKinney/ Allen Locations - 02-05-2008, 03:03 PM

HI there

It seems like all the parks in North Dallas are so plain.

Does anyone have a favorite park or any ideas to do a kid session?

I DEFINITELY need some better ideas.

THANKS- Andrea

Not from McKinney or Dallas but this was in the West End, downtown Dallas

Andrea,
Check out the sculpture gardens in Frisco. http://www.texassculpturegarden.org/
There are a few sculptures there that are perfect for kids.

One of the best is closed to the public. See www.connemaraconservancy.org/meadow.php. But check out the park across from the Schimelpfenig Library in Plano. Check out both sides of Custer Road. If you walk down to the creek, you can get some nice backgrounds. By the way, most or all of the sculptures at the Frisco sculpture gardens are copyrighted. Just be careful of publishing any photos from there.

A couple of suggestions in Allen:
1) wooded area off of Ford Park East (close to Bethany and Allen Heights)
(I have pictures from here, but none I can get to now. I'll add to the thread later.)

2) Bethany Lakes Park (I have done some here with the lake in the background. There is also a large rock here for climbing photos. There is also a small waterfall in the park.)
(I have pictures from here, but none I can get to now. I'll add to the thread later.)

3) For senior photos, I often use the abandoned railroad tracks going through Allen.

4) The hiking trail in Allen Station park has several good places. (take a gobo or diffuser with you to block the light coming through the trees so you don't get "splotches")

5) Any park...

Here is a web page with all of the parks in Allen, TX
http://www.cityofallen.org/parks/parks.htm

Many of the subdivisions have a nice entry point with interesting wood or stone textures.

Best of luck to you and enjoy!!

Where exactly in Allen are the abandoned railroad tracks? Downtown? Can anyone name streets for me? Thanks a million!

I think that this one was taken at the railroads across from the baseball fields on exchange right before 75...There is a trail out there with some what of a waterfall there to. I usually park in the parking lot that is connected with the big office looking building. Walk down the hill and walk across the waterfall up to the tracks.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
