Looking for classes! - 02-17-2008, 11:25 PM

I currently live in the DFW area and I am currently looking for photography classes. I would like to take a class that allows me to get to know my camera better (rebel xti) and a class aimed at shooting portraits outside and children. Does anyone know of a school or a class where I can get started? Thanks!

I believe Tarrant County College has some pretty good classes... Here:

http://www.tccd.edu/neutral/Division...=1&pagekey=210
Quote:
TCC's photography faculty members hold advanced degrees in studio art and are active in the exhibition and publication of their work. The great variety of interests and skills represented by the faculty is reflected in the course offerings. Comprehensive, transferable foundation classes include:
Photo I ARTS 2356 - Basic photographic processes and techniques as an art medium.
Photo II ARTS 2357 - Continuation of ARTS 2356. Advanced study of photography as an art medium (includes digital processing).

Several professional photography classes augment the two university parallel classes above:

Note: The following will not transfer to a four-year institution.

Digital Photo Imaging I - PHTC 1300: Instruction in the computer as an electronic darkroom. Topics include color and gray scale, image conversion and presentation. Adobe Photoshop, color management, work flow and output are also covered. Prerequisite: Photo I (ARTS 2356) or permission of the instructor.
Portraiture I - PHTC 1353: A study of photographic principals applied to the portrait. Candid, environmental and studio applications are covered. Prerequisite: Photo I and Photo II or permission of the instructor.
Expressive Photography - PHTC 1343: A study of formal, professional and individual uses of photography by applying photographic technology to personalized needs. Emphasis on visual thinking, problem solving and the exploration of personal vision. Prerequisite: Photo I and Photo II or permission of the instructor.
Architectural Photography - PHTC 2331: Study of the equipment, processes and procedures necessary for the photography of building exteriors and interiors, dusk/night and night architectural landscapes and construction progress. Prerequisite: Photo I and Photo II or permission of the instructor.

Additionally, Photoshop, image management and photo manipulation skills are taught in the Graphic Communications Program: [Note: This is also a non-transfer class.]
ARTC 1402 - Digital Imaging I: Digital imaging using raster image editing and image creation software: scanning, resolution, file formats, output devices, color systems and image-acquisitions.

@jasonhuang: I have taken 2 classes from SMU-in-Legacy and enjoyed them both. The instructor was personable, answered questions thoroughly, and I felt like I got my moneys-worth. They were both photoshop-related classes.

I have also taken courses at Richland and found those extremly disappointing. They were specifically SLR basics 101 & 102.

But, I have to ask, why are you inquiring about classes? I have looked at the two links you provide in your sig, and those pictures are great. I don't think there are many classes that are going to teach you anything.

Mine were intro 1 & 2 to Elements.

However, I was really impressed with the work (pictures and professional experince,) that Rob brought to his classes, and the shooting-type answers he gave during the Q&A periods.

Wait, am I getting a commission for this??? I gotta go talk to him....
