Although unsuccessful in the attempt, the Mythbusters - in their MacGyver special - said the only thing you need to develop black and white film is a black garbage bag, kitchen bowls, orange juice (developer), ammonia (fixer), and water (stop bath).

Wayne has given a good overview of scanners. I forgot to mention, too, the gallon containers for mixing chemicals. If Jenny is still interested after all this discussion, she might want to start with a local shop for help with the setup, then order 120 film and chemicals in the future. It's harder and harder to get film processed locally, so being able to process that yourself is very helpful. People have mentioned Competitive Camera and Arlington Camera as good places in the Dallas area to buy film. They're both good, though I think Arlington Camera might be more helpful in giving advice to Jenny. I haven't tried Film Depot. Also, though I shy away from franchises and try to support local stores whenever possible, the Wolf Camera off Harry Hines is the Wolf Camera in this area catering to professionals and serious amateurs. The bottom line is that if you want to work much in film, either be willing to pay increasingly higher prices for processing or learn to do it yourself.

They were unsuccessful because they were misinformed.

Adding this link, as FreestylePhoto is .biz not .com which makes it "hard to find".

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/

They have everything you could possibley need, and good online prices.

Ft Worth Camera has all the chemicals you need, and their prices are competitive with online prices.

B&W is easy to do at home. Color film is a different story, you will most likely need to use a lab for color. You can get the negs developed and scanned to a CD, and not get prints made to save a little money. You can print them yourself off the CD.

I didn't see the Epson 4490 scanner mentioned, but it has negative holders for 35 and 120, and does a good job. I got mine on the Espon web site, refurbrished for around $100.

If you are buying a flatbed scanner, be sure it will scan 120. Some of them will only do 35mm negatives.
