Prairie Creek Park question - 02-27-2008, 12:44 PM

What's the largest group you've shot right there by the water falls?
I've never shot out there, but I have a family shoot with 17 people that want to shoot there.

If any one want to post a photo or give any input, that would be awesome!

Largest I've done was a family of five...

The biggest concern I would have with that many is, it is quite a popular spot.. and in order to get 17 people in the shot with the waterfall, it may prove very difficult to not have other photo sessions goin on in the background (there is a nice set of two trees for portraits about 75ft or so behind the falls and to the right that are frequently being used at the same time as photographers using the waterfalls)

Obviously, that difficulty would depend on the time being shot. Saturday afternoons that spot for me has proved to be chaotic.

I would be interested to see the results once the shoot is completed!

On a second note, if you are needing some picture examples let me know and I can try and show you some this evening when I get home from work

I doubt you'll be able to get 17 people in the area. Its not big at all.

Depending on the people... 17 adults, definitely not.. but with kids and such, it may be do-able with some patience... and maybe some waders... But there is a nice spot you can stand up on overlooking the falls, and depending on how you had people organized, with a nice wide angle lens you could pull it off.

My avatar IS the waterfall at Prairie Creek Park, as a random side note...

OK, I went out there for the shoot today. I didn't try to get everyone in front of the falls. Well, actually I did, but I shot from across the creek.
I did do the small groups in front of the falls and I think those shots came out OK.
I will post two pics incase someone searches for this topic later.

Thanks to those that replied!
It was nice having an idea of what to expect. This place was not close enough to me to check out ahead of time.

Good to know you can fit that many people! How long did it take? I imagine trying to organize that many would be difficult, but you had perfect weather today for it at least. thanks for sharing the update!

The hard part was yelling from across the creek! The falls were pretty loud and they couldn't hear me very well.
They just kind of fell into place, so the big group didn't take to long.
It wasn't quite what I wanted, but without a bull horn to give instructions, it was good enough.

Great shots. I've been to Prarie Creek Park before and shot at the bridge but never even knew there was a waterfall area until I read this board. Luckily I live like 10 minutes from it. I really like the second photo, it's a great portrait.
