I expect full credit for you getting these shots. The "captaintom" effect was in full force.

def: CaptainTom effect - the fact that as soon as CaptainTom leaves an event, something interesting is likely to occur that other photographers will capture and then show CaptainTom how unlucky he was.

The cost of retrieving that bad boy would keep me from ever flying it.
Great shots as usual!

Great shots, as usual! So what time did it actually show up?

Nice to meet you today. I expect we'll run into each other again, maybe Tuesday...

Thanks Joe, was great getting to meet you too. It left about 2:15. Took off, came back and made a pass down the runway and waggled his wings goodbye. . .was pretty cool.

Great shots Keith. Do you know if this bird permanently stationed at NASFW? Seems like I remember seeing it there at an air sow.

Way to go Keith!
That is one bird I would have loved to shoot!
I believe those guys are kind of rare. I understand they are kind of tricky to fly, and that being so, a lot went belly up when they got into civilian hands after the war.

Thanks Roy. I believe this P-38 is stationed in San Antonio or Houston, I'm not sure.

A brief history. . .

Glacier Girl, the Lockheed P-38 WWII fighter that was rescued from beneath the ice in Greenland and meticulously restored to original condition, will appear at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007, parked on display at the main showcase ramp, AeroShell Square. But before she gets to the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration for the week of July 23-29, the airplane has some unfinished business to take care of.

Sixty-five years ago, Glacier Girl was one of eight aircraft--six P-38s and two B-17 bombers--assigned to Operation Bolero, a World War II aid mission to support U.S. allies in the war-torn European theatre. The mission was cut short by brutal weather, and the entire squadron was forced to make an emergency landing on a remote ice cap in Greenland.

Fifty years later, the P-38 was salvaged from under 268 feet of ice and was painstakingly restored over the next decade. It flew again in late October 2002 and was an immensely popular attraction at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2005.

Great work, Keith. Especially that last shot. Gotta love those Nikons. LOL!

Seriously, you captured a VERY cool piece of history.

BTW, The P-38 was known as the "Lightning"!
That is where the new F-35 got the name "LightningII"
Wouldn't it be nice to catch those two birds in flight together?
