The butterflies are in Fort Worth..... - 03-03-2008, 05:35 PM

Went down today, very cloudy and there was not a lot going on. The butterflies were just setting around doing nothing and being they just started this weekend there are not a lot out yet. They are letting more and more out all the time.

They will be at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden until the end of the month.

So with so sun and a few more days they should be everywhere.

Nice images. The first one is actually a moth, not a butterfly.

Very nice Bill. Looks like it's worth the $10 entry fee.

I am still around, just not shooting as much as I used to, got in to woodworking and that is taking a lot of time but I am waiting for this spring when I can get out and do so real shooting .

I did upgrade the camera this fall and got the Olympus E3, what a great little camera.

Being a novice with a XT and a kit lens (18-55), I was wondering what lens and filter(s), if any, you used on your butterfly safari?

Thanks,
Doug

I have an Olympus E3 so the crop factor is 2x.

On 98% of my shots I use a 50-200 f2.8 lens which is a 100-400 on a 35mm camera.
So when you see 200mm that would be a 400mm on a 35 camera.
I use a Olympus FL50 flash with a LumiQuest Mini Softbox.
I had the IS on in the camera and use a monopod for all shots.
I used no filter of any type.

Thank you. There are wonderful shots. This gives me some thoughts on what success I may have with the 18-55. I think there is a place in town where I can rent a lens for the day. May have to look into this.
