TX Tornado - 03-09-2008, 04:41 PM

I went to the TX Tornado game last night, which is a lot of fun if you have never been. You can't get a bad seat. These are shot with a D70 and Nikon 18-200. With that lens, I was not able to get any good action shots, but the VR came in handy. Let me know what you think.

Nice pics!

When you said Texas Tornado, I thought you were mentioning the OTHER Texas Tornado...

Heh. I was wondering how you got new pics of him, seeing as he's deceased.

Hey Quentin,

Did you have any rouble getting camera and that lens into the facility? Did you shoot through the glass or were you above it? I'd love to go to some of the games and practice some sports shooting.

Not able to action because you were still too far away? Looks like you got in pretty tight.

No trouble getting the camera or lens in. I saw one other DSLR there. I don't think they are two restrictive since it is not a professional game. They were all shot through the glass and we were sitting on the second row.

The 18-200 is not a very "fast" lens, so all the action shots had motion blur. I would love to get a telephoto that was a constant 2.8!

Good to see some Tornado shots on here!

If anyone comes out to a Tornado game, please send me a PM! I shoot for the Tornado and it's BC, and I'd be love to meet up with some TPF'ers at the rink and chat and shoot.

Here are a few I got that night...

Unfortunately, the corners of the rink can be a little dark...

I'll be out there this year now that I have my d300 and can push the ISO up.
