Ok Shane...funny you should post this..."we" are studying the Lunar cycles tonight...so would that be a waxing crescent or a waning cresent???

ok...so according to the science book...you can only tell if the crescent in on the right or the left..and since it is cloudy...here...can you tell by looking in the sky???

Waxing Crescent The moon is less than one-half illuminated by the sun but less than one quarter illuminated. Occurs when the moon's illumination is increasing,
First Quarter The moon is one-half illuminated by the sun. Occurs when the moon's illumination is increasing,
Waxing Gibbous The moon is more than one-half illuminated by the sun but not completely illuminated. Occurs when the moon's illumination is increasing,
Full Moon The moon is totally visible in the sky. Except during a lunar eclipse,

The moon is waxing right now...the new moon occured over the weekend, meaning the moon is getting bigger (well the part we can see is being illuminated more each night) and we will see a full moon around the 20th of the month.

(I was a science teacher before this...)
