Lighting at La Grave Field - 03-26-2008, 02:07 PM

What is the lighting like at La Grave? My son's school baseball team will be playing there next week at 7PM, and I'm thinking about going to practice my sports shooting.

It's pretty good. Lots of lights around the field and the last time I was there it was almost like daytime. Certainly better than hs football games!

John, do you have a 70-200 2.8? That's what I've used there but that's what I had too. Definately better lighting than HS football but not as good as the Ballpark in Arlington. Get lots of shots between 7:00 and 7:30. The last game I went to they were a lot more restictive where you could go. They wouldn't let me down by the first base dugout and I think it's because someone got hit with a foulball earlier that season because the year before I talked to the guy that handles media and he showed me where I could setup on the firstbase and 3rd base side, right next to the gate going on the field. There's plenty of places to go though.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I will be shooting with a 70-200 f/2.8.

Nice shots, Tom!

I don't know if you've shot sports before but try to take a monopod. It will help with slow shutter speeds.

John, the folks at Cat's Stadium are extremely fan friendly and I'd suggest calling and talking to the media folks and see what they will do for you with access to shoot this game. I doubt they will let you on the field but they have some places you can go if they are not occupied. This is a different situation than a regular Cat's game. You might get lucky.
