Question Need Help! State High School Playoffs! - 04-02-2008, 03:08 PM

First of all, I am by no means a professional, so no credentials.

Here's my situation......I have been accepted as the team photographer for one of the high schools, and have had no problems during the season, and post season playoff rounds taking pictures during the games. As of this week - it looks like they may go to the state playoffs....

However, I noticed there are some UIL "requirements" in order to get on the sidelines to take pictures during a high school state playoff tournament.

I understand that I'm required to have some sort of creditials in order to be issued a "media pass."

How the best way to get this?! i don't have any intentions of selling the pictures. i have been giving the pictures to the parents of the players each week. Can this be done, short of sneaking over the railing after the game starts...?

When I read through the UIL rules for the B-Ball playoffs in Austin it pretty much said you have to have a vested interest in the Team. That could be covering the game for the home town paper, etc. I would think that if you are considered the "team photographer" that you definitely have a vested interest in the team and the game and should be able to get the school to write a letter on school letterhead for you stating as much including that they want you to cover their games. If that's not good enough, then IMO, no one else should be on the field covering the game.

First off, I dont recommend sneaking over the railing. At the State events, there will be police officers patrolling and if your lucky htey will just send you back into the stands if you dont have credentials. Worst case is you are outside for the rest of the game.

Now, to get the credentials, you will need to go thru the UIL to get them. Regular school creds wont work. Seems to be that each event is a bit different as to how hard it is to get creds, so no telling if they will let you have them or not.
