engagement shoot locations - 04-07-2008, 11:02 AM

I'm doing my first engagement photos next weekend and need some help finding some decent places to shoot. The only place that comes to mind is Botanical Gardens. Anyone know of a nice place.

Thanks in advance.

That is a staple around here. You can't go wrong. It will be the most requested location you get, so may as well get used to shooting there.

I have always interviewed the couple before shooting their engagement or bridal photos.
I like to get a feel for what they want and who they are. I could shoot a couple with the buildings of Downtown Dallas in the background, or with flowers all around, or in a grundgy factory, or at the rodeo. How would I know what they would like unless I talk with them first ?
It would be impossible to list all the great engagement locations there are here in DFW.
Help us narrow it down a bit. Do you have a budget ? What do they want? How far do you want to travel? Where are you located? What is your style?

Agree with Tom.

Plus, while backdrops can set the mood, lighting is even more essential. I've taken some good shots just in my back yard because of the good lighting. What time of day are you going to shoot them? Shade or early/late sunshine can provide the most flattering images.

Thanks for the all the responses everyone. The couple I'm shooting are friends. They really haven't said much to me about what they're wanting to do. I asked them to tell me what they kind of photos they wanted or atleast point me in some sort of direction. So far they really haven't given me much. Basically I have to find them a location. I'm in dallas and they're in lewisville but we're open to go wherever. I'm going to suggest the things you guys posted and maybe they'll be happy with one.

I've only done one other "engagement" shoot with people I work with. They're was cheesy but really easy. They met at work and our office has a really nice courtyard with a few fountains so we did it here.

Thanks again everyone.

I always tell my clients to think of a place that is special to them, i.e. where he proposed, a favorite restaurant, favorite past times, etc. That way, it makes the pictures more special to them. One of the recent ones I did was at a simple park in Lewisville where he had proposed to her. Just my 2 cents.
