Hurst Storm Damage (21 Photos) - 04-10-2008, 11:35 PM

Evidently I slept through last night's storm. I woke up this morning, saw the news and made a beeline for Hurst where I found this damage:

(Yes, in one shot, a tree is, indeed, upside down.)

Hoping everyone is ok out there! We're still without power (hotel time)
But we didn't get any major damage like alot of others. Be safe everyone:)

Dont take this as scientific fact but my girlfriends grandparents have been doing roofing for many many years and they said the damage really looked like small tornado like winds. They noted trees and things of that nature that instead of being blown over had been twisted. Her grandma said "in 30 years of damage assessments this is unlike any 'wind' I have ever seen".

No matter what it was, those were some amazing storms last night.

Makes me wonder how they will build so this doesn't happen again.

Prior to moving to Lewsiville last September, I lived about 6 blocks from this park. I did see what appeared to be twisting of the trees but I did notice that the debris was not scattered everywhere. It was all thrown in the same direction giving me the feeling that this was wind and not a tornado. I'm not a weather expert but I tend to agree with them in this case. Everything I saw in Hurst seemed to be push in the same general direction and there was a clear path of destruction. If it was wind, it was SERIOUS!

I believe that fence in the second picture was also blown down when we had those 60mph winds a few months ago. That is if that place is on Melbourne, a few blocks North of the Elementary School!

You're thinking of the right place, wrong street. This is just north (acutally wrapped around) West Hurst Elementary on Precinct Line Rd. There's no school on Melbourne, just west of this location.

You got some good shots. I don't know how you slept through that. LOL

I posted a few myself in another thread. Mostly trees and power lines down in a Hurst neighborhood.

If you had been in my part of Plano, right next to Allen, you would NOT have slept through our storm. It was a tornado. The National Weather Service has now classified it a CAT1 tornado. It is my first and hope the last. Very scary.

I always thought I would run for my camera to take pictures as I was being wiped off the face of the earth. You don't if you're waken from a dead sleep and realize the sound you are hearing is a tornado. All I did was run downstairs yelling at my wife to do the same, just hoping we made it to the closet under our stairs in time. Only thought about surviving the storm.

How did you find that out? I am trying to prove to someone I know that we actually have a tornado.

I am not sure which local news I was watching because I was recording all of them. One of Friday's late newscasts said the National Weather Service had declared that a total of six tornadoes had hit the greater DFW area.

I went to the weather service web page and got this summary: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/fwd/April0910/april0910.htm
Sure enough we are in the path of the Allen Tornado. I knew it at 4AM on Thursday.
