Alternative to Las Colinas Canals? - 05-08-2008, 05:05 PM

I have a couple who is requesting photos in and around the canals. They however are not thrilled about the $50 permit fee. They said they are just looking for a great location "water and bridges." Does anyone have any suggestions of locations that might work that do not charge a permit fee?

The waterfalls in Richardson may be something they like.

I'm assuming Jon is referring to Prairie Creek Park in Richardson... (the waterfall is actually my avatar currently). It is a good place. There is also a park off main st in Frisco called Bicentennial Park (also known as the Frisco Commons), which has a veterans memorial, some neat structural type photo ops with circular steps, etc. There is also a big pond with a bit of an overlook, fountains, and a wooded area behind that even. To my knowledge there are no permits necessary for either.

I could be mistaken... it happens on occasion. But just a couple suggestions for you!

So I guess just skipping the "middle man" and booking a trip straight to Venice is out too? Hmmm, what about the Water Gardens in downtown Ft. Worth? There are some areas with water (and even a bridge) at the Dallas Arboretum and some bridges at White Rock Lake (but you'll have cycling and pedestrian traffic on them). Lakeside Drive in Highland Park has a bridge over it and some beautiful backgrounds. Can't think of any others off the top of my head.

So true! I use Google Maps "Street View" a lot these days. Sometimes it can give you a really good view or general view of what you're looking for. Helps me out quite often.

Sorry for the long link, I dont know how to edit it. Click street view in the pop-up if it doesnt load right away, then use your left arrow key and you'll see part of the park.

PS I would like to add this should be used with a bit of caution since the maps aren’t "true time" so environments can change and not be reflected in what you are seeing on your screen.

How about the Water Gardens in Ft Worth? Might be kind of Logan's Run-ish, but still a nice destination!

Another way to do it Rene is Type whatever you want in the message like Click Me, then highlight those words and click on the Insert Link, it will then tie the link to just those words.

Click Me

Hope that helps.
