Before the turn of the century, when they outlawed legal size paper in the Minnesota court system, my attorney was quoted as saying, "Then only outlaws will use legal size paper".

...and that's why they make it hard for everyone else.

It's things like this that makes it hard later on for those who want to do it the right - and "legal" way - to be able to do it. It is things like this that make cities impose permits. It is things like this that make private property owners impose a fee.

It is things like this that make absolutely no sense whatsoever - and shows a complete and total lack of respect for others.

Sorry if it seems harsh, but I think that's just plain being a "rebel without a clue".

I'm sorry Teresa, I hate to be a party pooper, but you do realize what this type of action does to the rest of us that DO pay to shoot at venues that require payment??? This type of action has two consequences.

#1The fact your doing this means they will just crack down on the rest of us even harder. It makes all of us look like freeloaders who are trying to get around the rules.. makes it more likely, not less, that we will be harassed.. not just there, but other places too.

#2 and more directly effects you, is the impression you give your client. If you don't abide by the rules of the venue you choose to shoot at, how can a client trust that your going to abide by the contract that you have with them.

I know you were doing this shoot for portfolio. I would suggest that in the future either pass on the fee that a venue charges to the client, or shoot at another location that does not charge.

I'm sure there are others that shoot at locations that charge, but don't pay, but they don't flaunt it either. I think this pic highly inappropriate to post and a bit offensive to the folks that DO pay when they are supposed to.

I'm asking you not to do this anymore. It makes it harder on those of us who are trying to make a living as professional photographers. Take the high road by paying the fee next time or don't shoot.

The sign says, "Permit Required for Professional Photography"

Snapshots are still allowed without any fee

I was under the impression she was getting paid for this shoot and figured she'd "stick it to the man."

yes and we didnt see any of these signs until after we were almost done shooting there. no one came up to ask to see a permit and a lot of people on here said that they have never been asked to see one as well so what the heck...might as well try and then we saw these signs in the stairwells out of all places. NOT out in the open where you would think you would see them. she saw the sign and did this CUTE expression but i caught the tail end of it. i thought her expression was priceless as she saw the sign before i did. oh well it is over and done with. moving on

I wasn't getting paid for this shoot. Brooke already had her senior photo done...well she had the free one you have to get for the yearbook so she wanted these. i have known her for 10 years now since we go to the same church and did this pro bono for portfoio purposes as i only have my younger sister's senior photos (and they really werent all that great)

The point is you knew about the permit b.c it was talked about in the TAG ALONG opportunity you offered and also you posed in a thread I started about a canal permit. You knew and you chose not to pay.

I agree that it makes it that much harder for those that DO pay. I get a permit every time I go down there (at LEAST once a month) and I have never been asked to show. However, I still pay b.c I feel it is the professional thing to do.

I find this thread a little offensive... What I find more offensive is that after many people have tactfully remarked and found your post offensive you still dotn get it. Do you not understand why people might not think it is that funny?

Regardless, I think it is very unprofessional

I believe it says commercial photography, not professional photography.
We could start a whole new thread about what each of us considers the difference between the two terms means.

The OP stated that these were portfolio shots, the purpose of a port is go get more paid work?? Correct??? Granted this particular pic is a snapshot, but there is another thread with the actual shoot, that are port shots. To me, weather you are doing it for portfolio or getting paid, if you are presenting yourself as a pro, be it commercial or professional, the venue still requires payment, it should be paid.

There are plenty of places to shoot in the DFW area that do not require payment.
