Permit Required? - 05-14-2008, 01:00 PM

Okay since I got so much grief yesterday, I turned a client away from the canals since they wanted to do their engagement photos there. Instead, they now want to do the photos at River Legacy Park in Arlington. I researched here and online other places and did not see a permit required or a fee required but I wanted to ask before I give them the go ahead.

Is it a city park? If so the best thing to do is look up the city's website and see if they have an email address to the parks dept. Send them an email and explain what you want to do and ask if there is a permit required. I was wandering that about the Rose Gardens and other parks in Tyler so I emailed the parks dept. I listed about 3 scenarios that I might be doing and they replied back there would be no permit required unless I needed a section closed down. This way I have an email record to show in case something does come up.

I looked up the LC permit price, and it's only $50 for less than a full day. Not much to ask since they're probably already paying more than that for the session and prints.

well i dont qualify for the permit. they can't just take $50...LC has to have all sorts of other "goodies" for you to get the permit. Trust me, if I can go in and say "hey, here is $50 give me the permit" that would be great (well not those exact words...but you know what i am talking about)

It took me five seconds to fill out the contact form on the Web site to ask them directly. I'll share the answer as soon as I get it.

A gal from River Legacy (who I actually went to college with) said the park is under the jurisdiction of Arlington Parks and Rec and questions about permits should be directed to them. The ordinance posted on its site, www.naturallyfun.org, doesn't specificially mention professional photography. Call P&R at 817-459-5474 or e-mail parksdepartment@arlingtontx.gov.
