Need best places for Bridal portraits in Dallas - 05-20-2008, 02:42 PM

I'm doing a bridal session on Thursday. I want it to be the best. I'm trying to find the best places to shoot in Dallas that are FREE!! Please shoot me your ideas, locations, etc. We are going to start off at the Dallas Arboretum. I have a really attractive bride and I want to make the best of it. Thanks

Are you also doing the session for FREE and giving the client FREE photographs? Yeah, I thought so.

No, this is a paid session. Are you trying to help me or be sarcastic?

he was being sarcastic. Is there a local park in the neighborhood? Downtown Dallas is always a good backdrop (not sure about Bridals but hey cant hurt to try). The location she is getting married at..usually they will let you use their facility for the engagements and bridals.

Not being sarcastic, but it doesn't sound very professional if you are charging for your time, but want a FREE place to shoot.

My philosophy is that the background isn't that important for portraits or bridals unless you are trying to sell the location as well. If the background competes for attention from the bride it is too prominent. If the light is right you should be able to get a good bridal anywhere if the background doesn't distract.

If you are doing environmental portraits or bridals, why would you balk at paying for the use of the area you want to feature ?

You might check out Lee Park near downtown off of Turtle Creek

Sometimes, you shouldnt assume without first asking. The bride is financially strapped. So, i am just looking to give her something as nice as if it was a paid location.

Sorry Sean, but I didn't assume anything. 83.5% of my clients are also "financially strapped", but that doesn't keep them from purchasing photographs and upgrading locations. If you really want a fantastic location then forget the Arboretum and go to Flippin Park in Highland Park. She will have to wear her dress to the shoot because there is no place to change, but then there is no place to change at the Arboretum either.

I'll second Flippen Park. And it's free. There's just usually a few photogs around whenever I've gone and it's a small park so be prepared to wait on locations. Still great little park - cute and easy.

Teresa - Much as people would like to help clients out, we can't help them all. All of my clients are responsible for any fees we incur for locations they pick to shoot at. I have a number of locations that are free and a number that aren't. It's up to them where we go and if they want to choose a site that costs a fee or not.

Financially strapped ? Find out how much the caterer is giving away. Find out if the Florist is looking for free flowers. I bet you dinner that if you get these answers you'll be surprised at how much is being spent for things that will last a few hours. Our photos should last a couple of lifetimes and are worth a lot more than any of us are charging.
