They had about 15 bands play and also put on a fashion show so i was wondering if any TPF photogs made it out there? I didn't know what was going on till i got there but i did have my camera with me and a 50mm 1.4 lens. I was pretty happy with some of the shots got about 100 or so out of 1200 i took.

I'll second the count for the second shot... Really nice composition and use of surroundings.

That second one is AWESOME! the series looks great but that second one is killer. Too bad about the top hand but even still it's strong enough with that.

So then, what are the rules about taking cameras to Firewater? It's 5 mins from my house as well and I've been wanting to go and practice my concert lighting photography. Thanx for sharing.

I've gone there several times and they have never said anything to me about it. Most of the time I've gotten then pretty early before they step up the door security but even after that I've been able to get camera inside.

I think Firewater is the ideal place for concert photography. I recently went to curtain club it's way to small and the moshers get way too carried away. Also, the lighting at Firewater is much better than most venues.

yeah i talked to them they have no issues with you taking your camera inside. Infact they really like it, but they do warn you they aren't responsiable if your gear is stolen or broken. The bands love it, if they see you (at least last night they did) the lead singer will come right over to you and will give you some nice shots. The lighting outside is the best i didn't have to use any flash with my 1.4 ... but inside well it was a nightmare at best. Course im still new to this style of shooting and im still learning so for me i hated shooting inside. We should put together a meet up one night at firewater when they have a good band there.

Great to know. Now, I'm going to get out there as soon as I can and practice. Please post here, or feel free to PM me, and announce when people are planning on going and I'd love to attend. I've shot a few shows and it can be tricky but it's pretty rewarding when you get some great shots. Thanx again!

I was there. I am one of the Official Photographers for the Guy that puts on these shows! He puts them on ever few months or so. The next one will be August 23rd, at Firewater. And by that time they will be finished with all their construction! I usually dont post images here, but as soon as I get some processed, I will post a few of the Models!

Yes, Matthew JC. He does these shows all the time. About 4-6 a year. They get better and better. You should forward some of your shots to him. He would love to have them, and use them for promotional stuff. Unfortunately he doesn't pay, but he will give credit where credit is due!
