Here in Haltom City, "taggers" have been making themselves known more in the past year or so than in several years combined. Lot of factors at play, but the many large empty buildings we've got sitting around is a ready and willing canvas for the vandals. A self-storage facility has gotten hit particularly hard in part, I think, because it offers two things taggers probably like: at night there are no lights along the back side of the stucco-sided buildings, but in the daytime their work is distinctly visible to passersby.
Seems like the business has a new tactic. I have not confirmed this, but it looks like graffiti artists were actually asked to decorate the back sides of the buildings now. Rather than tags, there are elaborate murals in multiple colors and styles. In all, there are 20 distinct murals.
Here are a few shots taken this morning. The graffiti faces east, and as you can see there was no shade to block the strong morning sun. Shooting in the afternoon would have been better.
The office wasn't open when I was there today, but if this looks like something you'd like to use for senior portraits or whatnot, I'd urge you to contact Haltom City Self Storage (Web site
here that lists the manager's name and phone number and directions off NE Loop 820). The graffiti walls are not fenced, but to pull off Haltom Road and park, wander around, etc., you'll be on someone's property so I'd recommend getting permission or seeing what's what before taking a client there.
Edited: This isn't in a "bad" part of town and is easily accessed off the highway.
