Downtown locations? - 08-25-2005, 02:01 PM

So now that I have both a model and someone to help shoot (thanks Jakestir!), I need some ideas on where to go. Ally is in need of some business suit style shots in a downtown type location. I'm thinking something like tall buildings/busy street/law firm/courthouse if you get my drift. If you've been to SF or NY, something like the financial district is what I'm after. Steel and glass, maybe some abstract art sculpture... One shot I want to attempt is the stepping off the curb/hailing a cab shot with the buildings in the BG down a busy street. Briefcase in one hand... Been done before, but not by me

Dallas natives, help me out here.

A couple of Dallas locations - 08-25-2005, 09:42 PM

You might consider shooting at the dancing fountains behind the large "crystal-shaped" triangular office building near Field Street and Woodall Rogers. It's behind the Bank of America drivethrough location. Also, up toward the Tollway, near the Crescent and behind the Rolex Building is the garden area of the International Center II. We have a water garden there as well as a number of other ready-made props. I work in the Intl Center there and have shot the garden numerous times.
Just a thought, these probably aren't what you're looking for.

Good luck.

How about a shot at the Cityplace Dart Rail station? I haven't been there (I used to work in Cityplace but that was before the rail station was put in) so I'm not sure how it looks, and lighting certainly would be a challenge. If any of ya'll have been there chime in and let us know if that location holds any promise.

I live downtown, have for over two years. If you'd like a really modern backdrop, Fountain Place (the one with the fountains mentioned before) is nice, and Bank of America would be good because of its modern architecture and the red sculpture outside of it. Also, around Belo tower, there is a nice fountain, a nice clean building (the actual Belo building) and the train station that is toward Reunion Tower. Let's see... The Cresent Building is nice (toward Uptown) as is the Trammel Crowe Center (actually, this one is really modern in its exterior with lots of sculptures). Main Street has many photo opportunities, although sometimes lacking in their modern look.

Hope that random listing of buildings helps!

Interntional Center garden plaza - 08-26-2005, 02:14 PM

Thanks to dcdttu for remembering the name of the Fountain Place. After working in or near the downtown area for so long, the changing names of the building don't really stick with me. Another good place for cool urban photos (stone, water, etc.) is Thanksgiving Square at Pacific and Ervay, I think. Also, here are a couple of pics I took a year or so ago of our International Center garden area.
