Big Man hunt in my Hood - 07-09-2008, 10:02 AM

Helicopter has been orbiting for an hour now looking. Officer told me to go in and shut all doors. Officer just waved me outside to ask if I had seen anything. I would like to practice fuzzy helicopter blade shots but I guess I'll wait. Gotta love Oak Cliff.

DALLAS - One person was dead, another was in custody and a third remained at-large after Dallas police encountered three burglary suspects near Kiest Park this morning.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Monte Carlo Street, Dallas police said. Officers responding to a report of a burglary encountered the three people and exchanged gunfire.

A police helicopter was circling the area in search of one person on the loose. Police were searching the neighborhood with weapons drawn.

The suspect is described as a Latin male in his 20s or 30s who is wearing an orange polo shirt.

A 911 call was placed by a teenager home alone this morning.

He told police people were breaking in to the garage apartment behind his house.

"One of the suspects pulled a gun at our officers. Two officers fired rounds, striking and killing one Latin male," said Lt. Vernon Hale from Dallas Police Department.

"It's the first time something like this has happened on this street in about 10 years," said Barry Wright, a neighbor.

"It's scary. I've got kids. My boys play outside all the time

Two camera vans are still in front of the "house".
LOL, I was going to say I could throw a rock and hit the house but I am 53.
Rich I am sorry if I caused you any distress, now that I have seen the good guys up close and in action I feel safer.

As a resident of "Old East Dallas," we're also familiar with the occasional police chopper circling with the searchlight going. Course, we're also in the flightpath for the Baylor Careflight, but you can tell which is which. Straight line = Baylor, Circle = manhunt going on. While I love Munger Place a lot, can't say that EVER happened while we lived in "the bubble." Can't say they've been all over my block with guns drawn, though. Scary.

Hopefully the police remember that when someone with a gun is in your backyard. They will wait for you to get home and cordially ask your permission... lol
