Car Show - 7/19 - NRH - 07-20-2008, 08:49 AM

I went to the Christian Classic Cruisers car show at Birdville ISD stadium last night. Apparently this happens the third Saturday of every month from March - October. Pretty good turn-out, lots of very unique stuff and a good mix of old and new. It didn't start until 8:00, so there wasn't much time to shoot with good light. Definitely too crowded for a tripod, and my weak on-board flash was inadequate, so not many keepers. But here are a few that I liked (just don't look too close or you'll find camera shake and/or high ISO noise).

Studebaker (and self portrait, apparently - it's hard to get your own reflection out of the shot with some of these shapely and highly chromed old cars)

Hood ornament of an old Ford (with reflection of new Ford across the aisle)

Foose Mustang

Embarassed to say that I don't remember what this is. A Dodge, I think. You don't see many of them around.

One of many Chevy Bel-Air's

Stunning Thunderbird, in its original color. Wish I'd had better light and more space to shoot every angle of this beauty.

Under the hood of an Oldsmobile 440, lit up with neon.

There are several more on my flickr page. Anyone else make it out? I saw a handful of guys with far better equipment than I had...

Yeah. I was there Andrew. Sorry I didn't get to meet you. Maybe next month. The August Show will start at 8:00 too. All of the shows except July and August start at 5pm.
There was a terrific turnout of cars. The lot was as full as I've ever seen it. Must have been 400 or so cars on display.

I didn't get as many pics as usual. I guess that was because I was talking more than usual. And...I usually try to get pictures of cars I don't remember seeing before, and most that I saw yesterday were not new to me.

Oh yeah, and BTW, I like the OLD stuff! So I don't take many pics of the late model cars that show up unless they are really unique.

Here is one pic of my favorite of the evening. Taken while the sun was still pretty high.

Very nice car detail shots.

Looks like a 1960 Dodge Dart or Polara, best I can tell from some Google searches.

Yes, Polara, that's it. Thanks!

Paul, the photo isn't showing in your post... not on my computer anyway. Would love to see it. Also, glad to know they start at 5:00 other months. I'll go back again in September for sure.

It shows for me but it is probably cached on my computer.
The photo is hosted by SmugMug, and SmugMug is having some serious problems, coming from an Amazon S3 outage. Whenever the Amazon problem is resolved the photo should be back. Phanfare is also affected by this outage, and perhaps other photo hosts.
Amazon reports that they are attempting to bring Europe up now. When they successfully restore Europe, they will attempt to get the US back up. Europe is smaller than the US, that is why they are bringing it up first.

I think my post office uses a truck like that. Might explain why I'm getting "new" issues of National Geographic in my mailbox from the 1920s.
