Senior Pics at Stockyards... - 08-19-2008, 10:39 AM

I am doing a Senior Session at the Ft Worth Stockyards soon. I plan on scouting it out this week. I am ashamed to admit I have lived in DFW for 3 years and have never been out there. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to start?

It's not a big area so if you go to the "station" and then around to the back area, you'll find lots of cool locations. There is a "herd" drive twice a day, but the photo ops for bridal is limited. If you find where the cowboys start the drive, they would pose with your bride. The steam train runs on the weekends/ and so do the crowds.

If I'm not busy I'd be happy to escort you for a while.

Tom,

Thanks for the suggestions. It is actually a Senior session not a bridal, but still. She is a very outgoing girl and I am sure would be up for anything. I am going to head out there tomorrow morning to scout it out, plus take my kids to see it. The shoot is going to be on Thursday. I figured that weekends would be a bad idea.

Thanks for you help!

Down at the Stockyards, the Mercantile building has a long veranda with repeating arches that make good photos. There are LOTS of worn brick walls in the area.

See attached view with green area. Interesting areas in the back part of the stockyards. Not to many folks go back there so it can be rather private.

Definitely go to Stockyard Station. Out back is pretty cool. It's known as the Back 40 and last time I was out there, there was a stage area with an old building facade as well as an old bar. Lots and lots of opportunities in the Station; i.e., old brick floors, gates, cool old looking lights/lanterns. Have fun. My last senior shot was out there and it lasted four hours. PM me for a link and password to the gallery if you want to see them.

You might also scout a few locations around downtown Fort Worth, whether just finding a few urban backdrops or going to the Water Gardens, etc.

Those look good! I almost wish I didn't live so far away so I could use that location. What a cute girl.

Very nice use of the textures down there.

Wish the trash can wasn't so visible in No. 3.

Can you explain to me where this location is? I tried to google mercantile building, but I don't think it is the same place you're talking about. Thanks.

It's actually in the Stockyards on Exchange. It's across the street from Stockyard Station and a little to the west of the train depot. This is actually the only pic I have on Photobucket but you can see the repeating arches in the background. Very cool building.

Very nice!

I happen to have a shot of the place but it was at night. The second one is from the southwest corner with the building in the background. These were for a calendar I published for 2008. Unfortunately I'm not shooting seniors at the moment but one can always hope.
