F-16 Viper with the Canon 50D - 10-03-2008, 11:08 PM

Took my new 50D out for the first time today and shot some aircraft out at NAS Fort Worth. So far it seems like a great camera. Really fast and accurate AF.

Very nice Keith.

I got to play with a 50D inside today. Very nice LCD screen.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed with the LCD also.

You know, that's the first time that I can remember seeing a Viper with AIM-7s on the wingtip rails and AIM-9s inboard.

Great shot. I have the 5DII on order, but dang if I am not tempted to grab a 50D just to have a 1.6 crop available to me. Must resist.

Great shot!

As soon as everyone gives the OK I am going to add one to my small collection.

I'd go for it. It was worth the upgrade for the screen alone, in my book. But, there are some other features I like as well. I can't verify any of the higher ISO claims, but not a huge concern for me.

The AF is a tad quicker, and the exposure is better than the 40D in my opinion. If I can find anything around here to shoot, I'll post some photos (all of my normal haunts have been trashed by Ike). Calumet Photo has some in stock, body only, and is a reputable dealer. Had mine in 14 hours.

FWIW. . . In the past when I shot F-16's, I would get pretty noticable noise on the underside of the aircraft (or whichever part was in shadow). In this shot there was
hardly any.

Keith, I agree with you about the noise. I only have a 40D and noticed a major difference in plane/jet shadow noise between my 40D and 20D. I didn't see enough difference between the 40D and 50D to upgrade, especially, when I plan of buying the 5DMKII for my early Xmas present.

I am looking forward to the Alliance Air Show that is coming up at the end of this week, even with two broken fingers on my right hand.

I'll be at Alliance this week also. Remember, the Thunderbirds will also practice between 3 and 3:30 on Friday afternoon.

Very nice.

I'm still waiting to see some high-ISO examples from some folks here.
