The show is this weekend. Anyone know if they started practicing today or if the rains put a kabosh on it? I'm hoping to head out there on Friday for the practice. Oh the Thunderbirds are supposed to be there this year.

I'm planning on going Friday. The specific road closures for Friday (2:30pm to 4:30pm) are
* Westport Parkway at Heritage Parkway
* Westport Parkway at Intermodal Parkway
* FM 156 at Eagle Parkway
* FM 156 at Intermodal Parkway

The website for the airshow is Alliance Airshow

Any recommendations for a good location on Friday? I've never been out there for the practices before.

Paul

I haven't ever been before either and would be interested in finding out decent places to shoot from on Friday as well. I do have a friend that lives not too far from there, but I doubt his yard would give much of a view. LOL

BTW: Does anyone know if the paid seating is worthwhile?

Last year I was able to drive right up to the circle drive right in front of the tower. Great spot. There were several people there with cameras, several from here too I believe.

I had the same experience as Michael last year. Drove right in parked and sat in the grassy area right near the fence. There were a LOT of others doing the exact same thing.

Andrew, I think all you pay for is parking so load up the mini-van (if you've got one) and it is one price for all. At least that is what I recall, I haven't checked the website this year.

Yeah $20 for parking, but there are some special areas of seating for various prices if you want them. Otherwise, it's free... Guess if I am shooting I won't be sitting anyway. The map shows their locations which "seems" like a good vantage point, but I have never been...

From my memory, of the past couple of years, the main advantage to the paid areas is that you are not packed in like sardines as you are in the public area. I don't recall that those areas have any advantage so far as view ability is concerned. Seats are provided in those areas so that you don't have to bring in your own chairs.

I used the paid area (P1) last year. It allowed me to get very close to the spectator line compared to the general area as I got there a little late. Fair amount of room until the Blue Angels flew and then people crowded to the front and jumped in front of everybody.

I plan to be out there Sunday as well.
