Pumpkin patch? - 10-19-2008, 04:38 PM

Is there a pumpkin patch anywhere in fort worth/mid-cities area that is good for photos? I'd like to take my kids there before Halloween, and two families I shoot are interested as well.

I've been told the Dallas Arboretum might be a good place; but, I've never been.

There are several in the Flower Mound-Argyle-Denton area. However, the one I visit with my family does not allow professional photographers to do shoots with other families. They say it has been too disruptive in the past. Here is one link: http://www.flowermoundpumpkinpatch.com/home.html. You can probably do searches for others, then call ahead for policies.

Perfect, thank you! I'll check on the policies, but I only plan on bringing my 20D + 50mm f1.4 - shouldn't attract too much attention.

The Flower Mound pumpkin patch gets very very crowded on weekends. But if you can go during the week, and don't bring a bunch of conspicuous professional gear, they have some very nice settings. They set up hay bales and wagons and stuff specifically for people to sit on and parents to take pictures of kids. I wouldn't bring clients there, but I do plan to get some of my own kids. As long as you're not disrupting other people or taking too much time, it should be fine. As nash said, buy something (pumpkins, food, drinks) as payment.

The one in Argyle (www.pumpkinexpress.com) has a lot of open space. It wasn't too terribly busy when we went a few weekends ago, and includes a miniature train ride with admission ($5 per person, under 2 free). Bounces houses, slides, etc. as well.

I drive by the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch every day. Looks like a nice place to shoot - never been in there myself.

As has already been said, weekends are horrendously crowded. Weekday mornings are the best.

Actually there is another "pumpkin patch" right next door to it. These two families always duke it out at Halloween and Christmas - kinda funny to watch really.

I can't say which is the "official" one, they both claim to be, but I can tell you the farm to the West (right at the stoplight) has a bigger/better setup than the one to the East...

West side of Ft Worth right off I-30. Ridgemar Farmer's Market - on AltaMere across from Ridgemar Mall. They have a Pumpkin Patch sign out front. In years past they have had a photo area set up with hay bales and corn stalks, etc. backdrop for kids photos. I didn't go in this year, just drove by, so can't guarantee it.

These are from the Flower Mound pumpkin patch. It was PACKED on the weekend we went, but everyone was pretty polite about sharing all the "props". There were a million DSLRs out there, so I don't think you would stand out any. Just don't bring lightstands and umbrellas and you will be fine!
