A few forgotten FA-18 shots - 10-22-2008, 07:31 PM

I forgot that I had taken some photos during their practice runs earlier in the week before the Alliance Air Show, as I had them in a different folder. I found them while I was cleaning up some folders and wanted to share.

And this guy came right over us very closely, so this one gets a larger size...

You got some great images at the air show Bob as I saw another one of your posts.... I was there for the first time with a camera and had a blast. Nothing quite like a jet doing a low altitude, high speed pass to get the hair standin' up on the back of your neck!

Would be very interested to know what you thought of your off the field position for watching the show? I was on the Alliance grounds in one of thier "Special" seating areas for an extra $15 at show center. They parked all the planes right in front of us! I was hoping to get some landing and take off images, but you couldn't see the runway for all the planes in the way!

Steve

Isn't this an F/A-18????

Yea.. not to quibble.. but that's an F/A-18 Hornet. The F-15 Eagle has a more pronounced delta wing, different tail wing, and the stabilizers are perpendicular to the wing instead of angled.

Plus, the F-15 is Air Force .. The F/A-18 is some inferior service. ;)

Love the shots, though.

Yep, the Air Force is so superior, that they've mastered the art of landing on a 12,000 foot runway. There's no way the Navy could ever top that.

Great shots, Bob!

Great shots, Bob!
Not to quibble, but the ARMY has more aircraft than either the Navy or the Air Force, and they land most of them on no runway at all !!!!

ah, let's be clear....MANY of the jocks dropping rocks from f-18s, then parking them on rowboats are MARINES. they just need the navy to get their airfield close enough for operations....

NO, I'm meaning like helicopters.
The Army used to have more aircraft than the rest of the services combined, but that number has dwindled to just more than any of the other services.

Edit: Add the Airborne troops ( an "aircraft" stretch ) and they undoubtedly have more than the rest of the WORLD COMBINED.... .. i think.

Army Aviation all the way.......hoohah !

Get back in the history books, private!

It really began with the Armys' "Aeronautical Division, U.S. Signal Corps" in 1907. The Army Air Corps wasn't established until much later. Naval Aviation began in 1911.

Along with everything else in the military. Reagan's goal for the Navy was 600 ships. We got very close to that number at one time, but I'm not sure we even have half that many now.
