Junkyard? - 11-01-2008, 05:48 PM

Does anyone know of a junkyard I could shoot at in the DFW area? I'm looking for that type of background for an upcoming shoot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can only think of three off the top of my head, but I know there are a lot of them around here. One is in Wylie on Highway 78 (north of Garland). There is another big one with really old cars and a lot of open space in Sanger (north of Denton). And then there is a car lot not far from my house (Haltom City, north of Fort Worth) that sells junked antique cars.

Does anyone have directions to the one in Sanger? Or a name? I'm doing a senior boy, and my 8 yr old has been asking for photos with old cars in the background.

It's on the west side of I-35, I'd guess about five miles north of Denton.

This appears to be it: http://www.ctcautoranch.com.

I've heard about this place off of I35. It's supposed to be really good. I've been meaning to get out there. I did hear they charge you a small fee to shoot there (at least, if you are bringing a bride or something).

The one near Sanger is right next to the drag strip. It's between Denton and Sanger. Getting to it on the service road is a challenge. A friend went out there about a year ago and at that time they were not open on week-ends. Best contact before you show up.

Rucker Performance on Belknap between 820 and downtown FW has a bunch of old cars now. The background might be challenging.

There is a Cadillac graveyard out west of Justin, but I think they may not be open on week-ends either.

Thanks very much for the replies! I'm going to have a very excited young man when he gets home from school. He doesn't mind me taking shots of him, but he likes to call the shots a little bit when it comes to the location/setting. The more possibility for getting dirty or tearing his jeans, the better the shot I'm going to get with him!

Please let us know about your experience at this place, as I might need to take my boys out there sometime soon, too.

BTW, they responded to an email I sent, and they charge a $50 fee to shoot in Sanger.

That's not bad. That's like the same price for the back bumper off a '63 Rambler.

There are a few in South Dallas off of Loop 12/Jefferson, out by the Dallas Auto Auction.

Do you have a specific address on the haltom city one? I'd be interested in checking that one out.

Elliott Reeder Road. Just one block South of 121 at the Haltom Road exit.
There used to be several along that stretch of road, and most likely still are.

The one I'm thinking of is on U.S. 377 north of downtown Fort Worth. It used to be an American Motors dealer, but is now next to a custom car shop.

Rucker Performance
5518 E. Belknap Street (this is U.S. 377)
Fort Worth, TX 76117
