One of my friends brought this to my attention and I thought it might be of interest here. The State Fair of Texas is Sept. 30 - Oct 23. http://www.bigtex.com/
Has anyone gone before? I've never been but was wondering what kind of photo ops there would be.
Thanks,

I have been many times, and will go again this year.
As for photo ops. Take a wide, medium, zoom, flash, tripod, lots of money, big appetite, good shoes, suntan lotion, lots and lots of media storage. If you can, plan on at least two days. There are people, animals, cars, boats, flowers, birds. You name it, it is somewhere at the state fair.
OR, just take your camera with one lens and have a great, fun time.

I love it, I go every year. I am going this year either on October 3rd or 4th, I have those days off, so I fugured a Monday or Tuesday would be less traffic. But this will be the first year I take my camera.

I usually go on the second Saturday in October. A lot of people wearing orange or red seem to be out there that day.
Here's Big Tex from last year.

I am going this year. I am going to bring only one lens, my Sigma 18-200mm. I do not want to lug a lot of things around in that heat....

I have not been in a long time. It always falls at a bad time for me with our company's quarter-end and with preparing for our annual investor conference. I really like Fair Park as I have always liked art deco architecture (Fair Park is one of the top sites for art deco). The last few times I have gone, I ran out of film fast. There is just too much to shoot. Have fun! Post your pictures.

Make sure you go by the Creative Arts building and check out the winners in the annual State Fair of Texas Photography contest. In the past I have had photos there, but this year I didn't place.

Thanks for the replies. I can't wait to go. I don't plan on taking a bunch of gear, just my 20D with the kit lens and the 50 1.8 for if we stay late. I'm hoping to get some good candids of friends etc. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
