Update: Stolen Gear - 11-18-2008, 04:42 PM

So this weekend while in KY some of my gear turned up in a local pawn shop. Lucky for me i happen to talk to the pawn shop owner and gave him a list of serial numbers in case something should turn up. The cops arrested a woman and her husband but they aren't going to be charged at this time since their story at this time proves no guilt on their part. So as of today i picked up 3 lens my 500mm, 50mm and 28mm along with my monopod and 488rc ball head.

According to the woman the man she got them from has the rest of the equipment as of this past weekend but my guess is he has already sold it or traded it off like he did with this woman and her husband. I bought another A100 body so at least now i have something to shoot with. Wish me luck the cops find this guy and he still has the rest of my gear.

Oh man, that's a consolation at least. I need to make a list of all my gear's serial numbers just in case.

Todd for sure you never know what might happen and having those numbers has paid off. Now i hope the cops pick up the guy who had the rest of it before he sold it all.

You had your gear stolen in the DFW area. You just happened to be in Kentucky and checked a local pawn shop and found your gear? Why are we not talking about the huge coincidence. Or are you traveling the country looking at every pawn shop.

When I saw that thread, I read it to mean that he was in Kentucky, and some of his gear was found in a local (D/FW) pawn shop. Maybe the police called him to confirm that it was the same gear.

I'm not really sure i care for what you are trying to imply there Michael. I was in KY visting a friend when i got a call from a local pawn shop. Local being to where i live not where i was visting. I left serial numbers with many local pawn shops and just so happen the lady walked into one i left info with along with a contact number. Apon checking the gear to the list i gave them i was called and i then contacted the local P.D. to recieve my stolen property.

As for the other side of the story. The husband had a former coworker who barrowed some money a month prior to my gear being taken. When confronted by the husband about paying him back the guy asked if he would be willing to take some items in trade. The wife took the items to the pawn shop to get money since they had no use for photography equipment. As of right now no other equipment has been recovered and the coworker friend hasn't been located.

Glad you got some of your gear back, hopefully they'll catch the other guy. The husband & wife's story sounded a little fishy though.
