Some of my shots were better than others, but I picked the right location (northeast of the base at Arrow-S Park). From a vantage point real close to the lake, we could see the shuttle parked on the tarmac, knew it was a go when it taxied to the opposite end of the runway and then it flew pretty much right over our heads. Was a challenge shooting into the sun, but was worth the hour wait!

Good one Todd. Glad you got out and saw this event.
It was nice of NASA to have a C17 take off just before so everyone could adjust their exposures, etc.

There weren't that many people (fewer than 25, I'd say) at the park along with me. During the hour before, several craft took off and flew right over us. I was fairly dialed in by the time the shuttle plane took off, but couldn't overcome the sun's position.

Glad I got out there. Was really awesome, even as quickly as it disappeared.

From the height, it looks like they had to use most of the runway to get that thing off the ground!

Nope. Just one camera. I was off the access road on the westbound side of 820. I'm not at all familiar with the area, but I think it was just past a new Best Buy and other stores in a new shopping center.

Wow Scott, he must have stayed really low for quite a while for you to get these shots. You're at least a mile or so from the runway end.
I had no idea that they would fly around and show off the aircraft, etc. Seems they circled north of Ft. Worth at least once, and they overflew Houston and then the Houston NASA complex.

Great photos everyone. I really like the 2nd shot from Scoami. Wish I could have made it up there to see the shuttle.
