Shootaround - Texas State Fair - 09-20-2005, 03:28 PM

Ok, I'll get it started.

The State Fair of Texas goes from Sept. 30 through Oct. 23.

http://www.bigtex.com/

There is a boatload of activities going on here including concerts, an auto show, contests and just the general public (which can be the most photogenic of all).

I'm sure many are planning to go on their own so I'm wondering if a group of us want to meet down there one evening and see what we can go home with?

Their calendar is fairly hard to find anything using so I'm hoping they'll publish a schedule in the paper soon.

I'll throw out two dates I'm currently looking at: Wednesday, October 12 and Saturday the 15th.

Anyone interested?

Opps. Your right. COOLEST DAY AT THE FAIR EVAH!
My parents always have an exhibit at the fair, and I've worked the Fair for about the last ten years. The coolest is the Gramlin game.
Everyone who goes to the game gets ALL dressed up. I'm not talking suits and slacks here, but a sea of color, feather boas and sequins. Enough gold for Mr. T to drown in, and the people are PARTYING bigtime. Happy Type Partying. Great Jazz music and lots of dancing. The fans of each side have their own little makeshift parades of clothing.
Everyone thinks TX/OU is a blast, but trust me as someone who endures it year after year, it's a nightmare. Way too many people, and way to many people being drunk and obnoxious. Gramlin OTOH is a blast!
(And please you OU/TX fans, don't blast me. I'm not a sports fan, just a people watcher)

If you have ever seen the movie Drumline, well Gramblin State University was one of the bands in the movie. The game is not all that exciting, but the halftime show is the one to see. Almost everybody goes to just see the halftime show.

I might go this year, if I dont have to work.

Joe my wife and I will be out of town from Oct 8th through the 16th.
We are going down to Austin, San Antonio and Fredicksburg for a short vacation.
Maybe we can work something out when we get back if you go while we are gone.

The Fair always seems so crowded to me.. seems like it would be hard to "meetup" .. but it still sounds like fun to me. :)

I don't know when/if I'll make it to the Fair myself, though..

Meeting up is easy. just set the place as the base of "Big Tex" you can't miss him.
The time is the key.... day? afternoon? evening? all day?

I am in for the Gramblin day.
I saw the movie Drumline at least 5 times, and the last part of the movie where the two bands go head to head never fails to amaze me.

I might add to Capt Tom's suggestion is the exchange of cell phone numbers so you can verify who is running late or not coming.

What day do y'all want to do? Is this going happen?
And if so, does anyone want to carpool?
