I'll be there Saturday, unless Rita gets up this way.
Any tips for shooting the cars on the track?
I'll be getting a pit pass too, so I can get some pit shots.

Get the best ear plugs you can find. Then put a noise suppresion head set on.
Then, don't wear shorts or open toed shoes. Keep your head on a swivel. finally, post some of your shots here.

If you are wandering arount the pits and you see the pit crew donning gas masks,
RUN....................
They are getting ready to fire up an engine that runs on nitromethane fuel, and it's really hard to breath. Watch out for the other people running also!
Went last year. Had a great time. Was sitting on the pit side, almost even with the Christmas Tree. Used my 28-105 and 70-300. Good frame filler shots were at around 80 mm. (Digital Rebel has 1.6x so it was like 130mm or so.) Take lots of storage cards and shoot much photos.

Yep, read that postponed. Looks like I'll wait a bit... Hopefully the weather will cool off a bit also and we will see a record set.

Hi Sheldon, sorry so long to answer, the internet I have access to during the day has been down. I am going to try and get to Ennis, but I'm not credentialed for it.
You'd be suprised what you can get from the stands. I shot for years from the top of a motorhome at about half track and have many great panned shots from there. Ennis has a set of stands right at the finish line. It's very hard to pan 300 mph top fuelers but they look awesome when you catch them right at te finish line, maximum body flex and all. You can use a fairly high shutter and still get streaked backgrounds at that speed.

If you South Metroplex NHRA guys get bored, and want to see a whole bunch of neat Italian Motorcycles tomorrow (10-02-05).
Then head down a little south of Ennis to the thriving metropolis of Italy. From about 8am until 4pm Italy will be vibrating to the roar of a large group of MotoGuzzi, Ducati, Aprillia, Moto Morini, (just to name a few) riders from all over South Central US, for the "21st ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY". Held in the middle of Beautiful Downtown Italy Texas!"
The event is free to all. It is paid for by the money taken in from a 50/50 drawing, A Pasts Run (the Italian variation of a poker run) and from contributions.
The streets of downtown Italy (All 2 Blocks of it) will be lined with an ever changing array or beautiful Italian Motorcycles, and a variety motorcycles from most other countries as well....
