DFW Airport - 12-30-2008, 04:57 PM

I have always wanted to get some shots around the airport of the planes coming and going, is there anywhere around the DFW airport where it would be a decent spot to get some good photos?

The best time to go is then the wind is from the south. Then the planes are heading south on takeoff and landing. If the wind is from the north you won't get much--they will be landing a couple of miles away from you and will be way too high when they pass over on takeoff.
Founder's plaza is really cool though. There are picnic tables so you could take a lunch or snacks and make it an event for the little ones.

The new founders plaza is West of the closest runway. The old one was on the East side of the closest runway. In order to get the sun behind you required a morning shoot. Now you can sleep in and get there in the afternoon and shoot until sundown.

The new one seems much closer to the planes than the old plaza.

If you have it, take a laptop with you with an aircard and load up www.flightstats.com. It will show you what planes are expecting to come in over the day. Also, expect to see lots of American MD-80s. LOTS.
