DFW Vintage/Victorian Hotels ??? - 01-09-2009, 04:30 PM

(New thread so as not to hi-jack the "Hotel Boudoir" thread...)

I'm looking for hotels - friendly to photographers - with a lobby, parlour(s), or room(s) that would match vintage Hollywood style portraiture.

I'm also preparing for chroma-key model shots (again in the classic Hollywood style) digitally composited into vintage styled backgrounds. I've seen this done very successfully, but I have no idea where to source the background from.

Any ideas for either of these?

I've got no googling time right now, but what springs to mind are places like Granbury, Waxahachie, might even be something in Denton that's maybe not a hotel anymore but used to be.

The Ashton in downtown FW is the first place that comes to my mind. I don't know if the decor fits your requirements ("Hollywood vintage") but it has a long history. I've stayed there and the room decor was what I would call vintage.

I tried googling, but haven't had any good results. I'm probably just not using the right search terms though. I think the idea of getting out of the DFW area is a good one. Although we all know DFW has tons of treasures for just about every possible interest. The trouble is finding those diamonds in the coal mine...lol.

FW has a Bed & Breakfast that overlooks I-30 that is just opposite Uncle Julio's restaurant. Going West, take the Hulen exit and go on the frontage road to the overpass road past Hulen and go to the South. I dont remember the name but they have pretty good size facility. Capn Tom might remember the website for it. I cant even remember the name.
Besides that Granbury has some Victorian homes that are B&B's that are very appealing. However Victorian and early Hollywood are VERY different in style.... not quite sure what look you are going for.

I'm still refining exactly "what" I'm looking for too, but I've seen some nice mixtures of early Hollywood style portraiture and opulent (victorian-esque) settings...
