Mesquite Rodeo - 09-25-2005, 04:46 PM

Went to the Mesquite Rodeo last night, shooting was pretty tough, to get a high enough shutter speed I cranked the ISO up to 1000 and pretty much shot wide open with a Nikon 70-200 F/2.8 VR. White balance was also interesting...

Did anyone else go? Comments welcome.

My wife got hold of the camera while was at the concessions, not bad! (The lights happened to go out during this time also!)

Not a greate shot but caught most of the action

Those are quite good. Only complain is that I'd love to see more of the flag girls!

Did they hassle you about getting your camera in?

Not at all. There were plenty of DSLR's there, they have an open policy:

Point 16 on their FAQ states: (http://www.mesquiterodeo.com/)
16. Can I use my camera, digital camera or camcorder?
YES.

From that I understand, this was the last show until April 2006.

Great shots! I shot a few months ago using the Canon equivalent (70-200/2.8 IS). Next time I go, I'm bringing some faster primes and see whether that works any better. I still found the shots soft since I couldnt' get a decent enough shutter speed.

I like that shot with the Cowboy jumping on the calf as well as the rodeo clown.
