Question White Rock Lake permit? - 01-25-2009, 02:12 PM

I was wanting to shoot my car down by the lake at sunset with strobes and was wondering who I should contact about getting legal. I've been around that lake over 200 times and I know I can't just set up and not expect a bike cop to come up or someone to complain/get in the way.

Anyone have any prior experience?

Thanks,
Zack

-1st try with strobes (before extension cords and PWs)-

I would contact the Dallas Parks Dept and get a name to use in the case if no permit is needed.

(I have seen a situatuin where a commercial was being shot in a city park and they had a permit but that included closure of the park for several hours, many trucks, probably a crew and cast of 50+, and several hours pre-set up).

Iv'e been down there constantly for the last couple of years and taken several 1000's photos I have never needed and have never been asked for a permit. They have signs at the entrances that fee based activities need a permit. Just don't expect to park it anywhere cars aren't allowed at the park just so you can photograph it, Best time to go is mid-week as it gets to be a zoo on the weekends. Good Luck

Nice Subie!

You can park it in my driveway if you'd like, but don't expect it to be there when you get back.

Don't have any White Rock Lake experience, but I know if you're at any public park beyond the posted hours you might get some attention.

I did a huge commercial shoot around the white rock lake and had an rv, assistant, make-up artist, client, models, and art director. My group was big enough that I got a city permit to be safe. It costs $50 and you get it from a city office in the convention center building. On the NE side of the building, upstairs. Forget the woman's name, but she's nice and helpful.
