high rise interior in Dallas - 02-17-2009, 08:16 AM

Hello, I need to do a portrait shoot that requires shooting with a background of high rises through a window, inside an office building. So I need to locate a Dallas location with large windows that shows a view of Dallas skyscrapers. I am not very familiar with Dallas buildings accessible to the public. Or perhaps someone works in an office building and can allow access in exchange for pics? Any help is much appreciated!

Why don't you go too a parking garage to get an elevated shot of downtown and them find a nice office setting and PS the downtown shot into the window? Just as a back up idea..

Tim, thanks for your suggestion! Yes, this is indeed my backup plan, to do a composite. I would much prefer do the capture in the right location, but I only have a few days to scout a location.

Thank you guys, this one is going to be tough. I know a couple of architectural photographers in Dallas that may have contacts I can leverage.

The Crescent Club has some gorgeous windows and I've seen some beautiful portraits (primarily bridal) from there. Alas, I'm no longer a member. While it would not be through windows, the pool area at the Hotel Belmont (just west of downtown) has a killer view of downtown. A friend got married there and has a huge print of her bridal party all sitting on the edge of the pool with their feet in the water, with the Dallas skyline behind them at twilight. I don't work downtown anymore, so I don't have a window to loan you. A room from the W would give you a great view of downtown. I don't know if you could go up in the ball at Reunion to shoot a portrait or not. The Hyatt @ Reunion could have some good views. I'm thinking, I'm thinking of some others.......

Lisa, many thanks. What I have in mind is an office type environment with large windows showing high rise buildings. I really don't need identifiable buildings, just generic high rise type of buildings. The closer the building are, the better, so the Belmont would not work, as it needs to feel as you could almost touch the skyscraper if you just opened the window. :-)

Ah, gotcha. Well, at one point, I officed on the 41st floor of Thanksgiving Tower and then on the 22nd floor of Lincoln Plaza, either of which which would worked well. But, I'm out of the downtown rat race, so don't have any in's there anymore. I'd start with who you know who works downtown and see if you can beg, borrow or rent a conference room. You might also contact some "office suite" type places and see if they would rent a conference room for such a shoot.

The Joule is way cool, although for less than 1/2 the price, the Magnolia has a view down onto it from the upper floors. Hey, that reminds me, that someone I "know" on Flickr has an apartment downtown. Maybe she has an "in" in her building. If you can't find anything else, let me know and I'll shoot her an email. I don't actually know her personally, but we've just commented on each other's stuff enough that we're "flickr friends."

John, Lisa, thanks again for all your great suggestions! Lisa, if you don't mind checking with your flickr friend, I'd appreciate it, I may find something between now and Sat then I wouldn't need her assistance, but just in case!

This is not a paid shot, so I don't want to spend much money to make it happen!

Regards,
-Paco

The view from the Anatole Hotel (Nana Grill especially) is great as well as the hotel across the highway...the one that looks like a BIC Lighter. Downtown...try the old Texas Commerce Bank building. It's the one with a big hole in the middle of it across from the Plaza of the Americas. The floor that's at the bottom of the "keyhole" is an atrium with a great view of the downtown and Love Field depending on which side you look out of. At least that's how it was when I worked in that building.
