Graffiti wall in DALLAS? - 03-04-2009, 08:15 AM

Hi all,
I am looking for a graffiti wall in DALLAS that has two features. 1- it needs to be big enough to park a car in front if for a shoot and 2- needs to be close enough to street parking or publicly accessible parking lot that I can get the car into position. The car will not be able to jump curbs travel through grass etc., so the wall needs to be in the area of pavement.

Thanks for any input.

Deep Ellum is 99% graffitti free, in fact Dallas has been on a big crackdown on it so very hard to find in open areas, there are some under bridge spots but those won't work for this guy.

I there is a all in Deep Ellum toward downtown from Cafe Brazil that is in a parking lot. I wouldn't say Graffti but it is a mural. Then the one on the corner that has parking meters in front of it. Does any one who did trash the dress have photos?

The Bone's latest graphics are poor, but that was a couple months ago when I went by. Deep Ellum should is having a street celebration in a few weeks so will be down there looking around more.

Have you tried where the Door used to be, down elm closer to Sons of Hermann hall? Those walls tend to get graffiti more, since they are on the fringe of Deep Ellum. Also, go down grand, just north of i-30. There are a couple walls over there that usually have graffiti.

The building where the DOOR was is GONE!! Bulldozed several months ago!
Door moved into what was the Gypsy Tea Room and Ballroom location.

Perhaps you can keep your eyes open for rail cars. (You can often find some nice graffiti passing through town and often stopped close enough to the road while waiting to get hooked back up to the train.)

Some schools allow the kids to paint graffiti on fences near the schools. (Haven't seen one lately but I think there used to be a long one on Webb Chapel)

There's 2 buildings in West dallas on westmoreland (north of 30, south of the trinity river) just south of Canada drive that have nice graffiti walls. I'm almost certain that both have paved lots right on the side of the bldgs. One I think is a bbq joint, i'm not sure what the other is. They're on the west side of the street.

I knew the Door moved, but didn't realize they bulldozed the old building...

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but I did a shoot for one of our covers in front of a graffiti wall that should still be there. It is across the street from the main Dallas Goodwill. I think they have a retail part, corporate part, and distribution part all in one location at this goodwill - it's their biggest one in the metroplex. I forget the cross streets, but I bet you can google it.

Anyway, the building owner lets kids graffiti it legally. There's a graffiti crew called Sour Grapes in town that do stuff on it a lot...

2926 commerce 75226 on google maps. It's not 'graffiti' per se, but it is a nice mural with a graffiti feel and has a parking lot in front of it to park.

Are you looking for a tough gangsta look or just a colorful street art background. If the latter, I can send you a couple of shots a locations down in Deep Ellum that would fit your requirements.

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=dallas%2C+OR+tx+OR+graffiti&d=taken-20080701-&ss=2&ct=0&page=2

I went a did a search on Flickr with the following parameters:

Any word - Dallas, TX graffiti
Date of picture - After 6/1/2008

Got these results:

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=dall...s=2&ct=0&w=all

Looked like some good spots. One actually had a car in front of a wall like you were asking.

Nice shots Bob. Are those TV Bars in Deep Ellum? If it is, they look like a recent addition.
