Just wondering who from here I might run into? I'm going to try to get there early Sunday morning and miss some of the crowd.

To be honest it will probably be too windy to get excellent shots. Best time to shoot is early and when the wind is under 5mph AT THE LAKE which is rare with all of these fronts coming through.

Yes, I'm going to see how the wind is Sunday morning before deciding whether to go. But, I find that if I miss it early on, the weather usually plays havoc on the blooms and they get more and more battered the later in the season you go. If it is windy enough, that can make for some fun motion blurs......

I was going to go, but it's just too windy. If the wind downs down, I might go sometime next week. I hate the wind in the springtime here, it makes shooting tulips and other spring flora very difficult.

I was out there this morning. It was great, my wife and I left about 12:30 and it was starting to get a little crowded. Color is wonderful.

Is that at the Arboretum? The couple I'm doing engagement pics for tomorrow wants to shoot there, around 2pm.

Is it going to be insanely crowded???

Yes, it's at the Arboretum. Unless it is pouring rain, yes, it should be very crowded mid-afternoon the opening weekend of Dallas Blooms. You probably won't be able to park on premises. I've had a membership at the Arboretum several years and know from experience Dallas Blooms is the most crowded time of all. I recommend being there when it opens on Sunday a.m. - at least that way you miss the huge church crowd. Everyone and their mother bring their kids all dressed up for pictures after church on Sunday. You won't be alone at opening, but at least the crowd is somewhat smaller. By mid-afternoon, you've got crowds and direct sunlight. Ugh.

Isn't the fee for shooting there commercially something like $350/day?

You can shoot engagements and bridal portraits as "non-commercial." They really mean true commercial work - and the accompanying lights and crew.

Commercially? I'm not getting any money for this, and it isn't for an ad or anything.... They're paying my way in, and I'm taking pics. Is that considered commercially??

Scott - glad you got out there. I'm stuck at my office, alternating writing a brief and wasting time. I'm sure it was beautiful.

John I do not think that they charge anything. Just can not use the public restrooms as a changing room. I am not totally positive on that but pretty sure. Lisa I would bet that it will be a mad house there around 2 pm tomorrow. Early in the morning when it opens does not seem to be as bad. Especially on the sundays I have been there. I just take nature photos though.

That's alright—although it would be harder to take pics tomorrow after the heart attack I almost just had....

I'm going with the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area Meet-up group. We are scheduling for the 21st I believe.
