I'll be in Dallas this coming up week, and will be doing my nephew's senior portraits. He goes to the magnet school downtown geared towards musicians, sorry but can't remember the name. Does anyone have any ideas of where I can get some good shots downtown for a more urban feel? I'm pretty familiar with downtown Dallas, just wanted to get some ideas. Also, I if there are any areas I should stay away from, as I don't have a permit??
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

I'd definitely start with his school, and maybe take along an instrument if he plays on for a prop.

Deeley Plaza is cool. Usually a crowd outside. Also a train station close by and easy to get tall buildings in the photo.
Deep Ellum is a favorite with seniors. Cool, hip, graffiti, etc.

Thanks so much for the tips. Is it generally okay to just walk around and snap the pictures downtown? I'm doing the photos as his graduation present...

Here is another thread where someone did something similar. http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...light=trombone
Of course, if your nephew plays the harp or the timpani you might have trouble recreating this shot...

Thanks for passing that along. It's an awesome shot. He is a guitar player, and has been accepted into the Berklee School of Music. The magnet school was so good for him. We will definitely be toting his guitar all over downtown...

If you go to Dealey plaza, don't forget the Book depository. Also, the Old Red Courthouse is right across the street. And yeah, taking snapshots, or even using a tripod is no big deal, AFAIK. Don't miss out on West End for some nice walking areas to shoot. Finally, the farmer's market isn't too far away... consider it. Just walk down Elm or Main and look around! There are all sorts of cool places. And don't forget Deep Ellum... some of the more interesting buildings are there! Have fun!

Deep Ellum very urban feel lots of color and old buildings, Westend is another great place old buildings, shipping docks, Maybe even on top of a parking garage so you can see the sky line behind him.

Congratulations on your nephew attending Booker T. It is an uber selective school that has established a reputation nationwide for it's arts programs. Quite an accomplishment for any youngster to be accepted, let alone complete studies there.
