Storm shot - two interesting formations... - 03-26-2009, 01:19 AM

The storm today wasn't nearly as impressive as the clouds preceding it. Both shots were taken from the truck with my little LX3 (the thing travels everywhere with me).

Just for fun, I let PSCS do some of it's "auto" magic and this is what it came up with. I like it a lot more than the original...

I also have a panoramic that looks horrible when reduced in size so I have to figure out if I can get a good crop of it...

Since I am an expert on practically every subject......

The clouds we saw yesterday were mostly "shelf" clouds, caused by the
collision of two separate air masses. They can be very impressive or can sometimes be blah.

The ones yesterday were very impressive and scared the hell out of a lot of people. Think "Wizard of Oz"...

I remember seeing that on the drive home, and wished I had my camera with me.

I'm gonna go geek here for a sec. That first one makes me think of Starbuck's tattoo in BSG.
