Exclamation Ran Across some good bluebonnets - 04-03-2009, 08:36 PM

on hwy 175 between kaufman and kemp (better a bit south of kemp), yeah they are highway dept planted but some of the fields are over 300 by 500 ft in size and the flowers look good. This is about 35 miles south of downtown Dallas.

Few paintbrush mixed in, found a good paintbrush group on 287 at Tennessee Colony.

Don't waste your time going to palestine for the dogwoods, the high winds knocked most of the flowers off this week. Did find a few trees in town and on the trail in the park but not many.

Good fields but nbot a rural backdrop. The stuff along the highway is both flat and hillside sections.

actually was in I45 in Ennis and they did not have as many BB's as Kemp area did.

Bluebonnets are starting to pop up all over the place. I saw some nice country fields filled with them on the way to Paris this weekend. And Ennis is the bluebonnet capital of our state. They have millions of them and celebrate with a festival and tour.

The bluebonnets in Ennis aren't too great this year, but still worth the visit I think. I was there past Saturday. Originally, I tried to avoid going this weekend as I thought it's going to be crowded for the festival....However, after I came back and looked at my pics, I just felt I "haven't had enough and want to go back again."

Anyone has experience going at the festival weekend? Are the patches/fields be full of visitors and difficult to get any wide shots ever?

I have never been during the festival. I just remembered it, because I had to shoot a story about it and Ennis for a news wire service a few years back. I'm sure the recent rains should have the fields looking great this next weekend...

I'm just east of AUSTIN and had gone to the Inks Lake area and the flowers are very few and far between even at locations that are known to be thick with them, the draught during the summer and fall did not allow the seeds to germinate so there are no plants up to even flower no matter how much rain we get now. This is like the 3rd year out of the last 5 or so that has seen few flowers out and about. Did see two nice longhorn heards (about 50 head each) along the way in empty pastureland with mixed mesquite so didn't stop to shoot any pics.
