Boudoir at NYLO -Cops called and ticketed - 04-08-2009, 10:24 AM

I was talking with another photographer about a photographer, makeup artist and client getting ticketed at NYLO hotel for doing a Boudior Session there.

Has anyone heard of this? Has anyone shot there? Did you recieve permission?

Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

How embarrassing! I think a professional photographer has a responsibility to the client to secure permissions before a shoot. Sneaking into a hotel, or anywhere, to do photography without a permit is just asking for trouble. And it ruins it for the next photographer that is willing to pay for permission because the hotel just has a bad feeling about photographers in general.

So they can regulate what you do in their rooms? Seems to me if its not illegal they shouldn't be able to do much. Obviously they reserve the rights to kick anyone out for any reason, but still it seems strange.

Good point. We just don't know exactly what happened. I'd be curious to know the basis for the misdemeanor charge and fine.

Studio equipment and multiple people going into a room? Maybe they thought they were filming porn?

Yeah, I dont know how they were ticketed either! I wish I knew more about the story!

I just hear about so many photographers doing shoots there and wonder if they go permission or not.

I haven't seen the story, but I would wonder if they ventured into a hall or elevator. Seriously. If they were in the room, I would think this is a stretch.

Maybe so!

But you should be able to pack photo equipment discreetly. Including light stands. Taking a rolling case into a hotel shouldn't be a big deal.
I dont shoot boudior session, but I don't think I would make to big of a production out of it. Unless I was going for more "glamor" style, or making a porn......

The only ticket that I know they can get is if they were in public view (like shooting in the lobby or in the room with a window open). That would be disorderly conduct- because of the offensive display creating a breach of peace, which is a class c misdemeanor (like a speeding ticket).
