Texas State Fair - IR - 10-16-2005, 12:55 PM

Went to the State Fair of Texas with Nancy, Karen & Craig, Jake, and my lovely wife Sheryl.

The clouds were wonderful for IR, and I have never shot IR in low evening light before.

Texas Star

They are all very nice, but #3, the first midway shot should be included in an exhibition of
IR photgraphy GREATNESS.........

There aren't many IR photogs around, so it would be easy to take some mediocre shots and still dazzle everyone. In your case, the shots you take are ALL world class photography that just happens to be accentuated by the IR image.

Our paths will cross one of these days, and I will be proud to meet you in person.

CaptainTom, thanks man, you are too generous with your praise, (but I take it whenever I can ). I'm glad you like these. I think we have met, at the Horse event in Trinity Park earlier this year?

Thanks Nancy, naw, it wasn't pink, it was a peach color!

Thanks Lissa for your most kind comment!

Wow. I love 3 and 6.

What lens were you using on these? I'm going next weekend and wanted to know if my 18-55 would be wide enough.

I took some shots with my 18-55 and it worked perfectly.

Wow, these IR shots are so unique and the visual impact is just STUNNING. I hope one day to be able to take IR photos to supplement my 20D....just gorgeous.

bbailey,

I shot these with my Sony 717. I think it's equiv at WA is 34 mm.

Jake was using a WA lens on his Canon, maybe he can advise you.

thanks for the nice comment.

84NetGal,

IR with your 20D is certainly possible, but unless you modify it for IR-only you are looking at some long exposure times. In this light, I'd guess 3-6 seconds, maybe longer. My 717 is limited to 1/60, but it was enough to get these, not pin sharp, but OK for action like this. I have access to a D30 that has been modded, and it could have given me a better shutter/aperture selection.

lulalake (Jules) who posts on this board, hosts an IR forum on Yahoo. He can help you with info on shooting IR. The other IR shooter here is Panther. (Craig) He and I do a lot of IR with our Sonys, and we know a bit about IR in general. If I can help, let me know.

Hey Leslie, thanks, glad you like them!

I don't usually care for IR photography much at all, but man... you've got some REALLY cool shots here. I love the one of the pirate ship and the one of the texas star. Nice work :)

You know, Jerry, these would be perfect for Texas Monthly. You should try and sell them to them!

thanks Jeze, be really, really careful... IR is an addiction. It can trap you, it got me. thank you so much for the kind words.

Leslie, I've sold a few of my shots, but, just as requests out of the blue. I'd have no clue how to approach Texas Monthly. Any suggestions, appreciated.

thanks for your kind comments too!

Craig, you rascal, I know you got some just like this. post on Wayne, post on Garth!

srini, just realized I didn't acknowledge your comment. thanks so much, coming from you that is a real "feel good".

so many good photogs here!

Wow, stunning photos. If done correctly IR has a way of taking a photo and giving it life. Great job.
