Denton locations? - 06-17-2009, 11:32 AM

I've got an engaged couple looking for pictures in Denton county. Preferably in Denton or around University/380 - to the east. TWU is nice but I saw there's a fee and I'd prefer a free location. Thanks in advance!

What setting do they want?

Urban - just shoot downtown Denton - behind the square there are lots of good old brick shots - Dan's Silverleaf has some cool wall colors if you want solid backgrounds. There's an aluminum wall on Austin St. (parallel to Locust)

Garden setting - denton doesn't really have one. besides TWU.

Park/Playground - Not sure if North Lakes Park still has that old metal playground - but that could be awesome if its still there.

Railroad - The Arts Center has a bit of railroad running by it & there are always some train cars parked there.

There's a fountain/lake in one of the newer developments on lillian miller - an Ashton Woods one, I believe.

South Lakes Park (Eureka) has a pond with a dock, a very secluded running/nature/wilderness trail on the side by the tennis courts that's gravel - and the trees cover it completely. Not to mention the wooden playground.

Highland Village has some very upscale neighborhoods that run alongside the lake - and some of the culdesacs have awesome lookout points.

True, there is supposed to be a fee at TWU, but I have only paid it one time to guarantee that I had access to the park when I needed it. I have never received a second look from campus police. I have only been approached once by one of the University wedding coordinators telling me they had a wedding party arriving in twenty minutes. I assured her that I would be finished well before then.

I try to avoid taking clients there during typical wedding times unless I have paid the fee for a guaranteed spot. I would never take a client there on a Saturday evening without prior arrangements. Saturday morning ........maybe. I have taken my family there on a Saturday morning and it worked out fine.

I was going to say... we just shot bridals there at TWU a few weeks ago at their little lilly pond area and were never approached, and never paid a fee.

Thanks for the information and ideas! Now I need to go shoot someone.

TWU has a lot of variety. Around the lily pond (at least last time I was there), there was also a vine-covered arbor, two cool white columns and a garden around the chapel. For something more casual, head down toward UNT and the neighborhoods full of cool old houses. The street scenes would provide a casual backdrop. Then there's whatever is left of Fry Street for urban/grunge, etc.
