Question Looking for a barren space - 06-29-2009, 09:56 PM

I am working on a cosplay bandit photo shoot. I have several locations and a horse already picked and set but I need to find a good place to take a photo for a desert back drop.

Somewhere with dirt, rocks, and very little to no vegitation. Any place would be good and I am not afraid of having to drive a little ways out. It just needs to have a desolate feel to it.

Thank you!

Sounds like you need to head a little west, like to the Caprock on the way to Lubbock. There's a stretch of it that looks like Mars or the surface of the moon.

Here's a view of one area of Caprock Canyon State Park. A little heavy on vegetation right now and a pretty long drive.

Is the horse going to be in that barren spot?

I'm not planning on it. Though it would be a good shot. I am not sure though that I could get the owner to go along with that and I would have to check the parks rules. But it might be a consideration.

Would an old rail track help for a bandit shot. Its right in the heart of Dallas. The entrance to the Dallas Pistol Club.

Wow that is really a good idea. I am planning to do a ton of pictures and this would be another amazing place to do pictures at. Thanks so much for the info. Is it fairly easy to find?

I'll check what I have on my GPS and let you know over the weekend if it is not too late. Else try and Google Dallas Pistol Club near Irving/Lewisville

I won't be going this weekend so that is fine. I just finished the hand dyeing on the closures and will be attaching them over the weekend so I need to finish that before I go.

Wow, so many great places! I am actaully starting a file on this so I can have as much info as possible. I am doing several cosplay series outfits that I have sketched out so really all these places are going to be very handy to have.

It's near the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, near Holford Road and Hwy 190 (GWB Turnpike). In fact, it's right on the edge of the Park and private property. I have been working with the property owners to keep motorbikers and ATVers off this area, as they are tearing up the place. Young people also go back there and start camp fires.

There is also a rock quarry on the other side of the park, though it is fenced off. I've often wondered if it would be possible to get permission from the company for access, though I doubt they would allow it, due to liability.

Here are some barren-looking spots inside the Park:
